Xmas Relays, Tue 21 Dec

The traditional Christmas Relays, organised by Bernie Gibbons and family and friends, were much-enjoyed by the brave souls who braved the -10° temperatures. Fancy dress was obligatory, and most chose warm costumes! The X-Factor team (chaps in dresses, gals in suits) probably had the most distinctive fancy dress. And the mulled wine and mince pies helped stave off the cold.
Afterwards, Vince Gibbons chaired a quiz back at ILT&SC, with some members old and new taking part and enjoying a buffet supper laid on by the Club.

Bernie adds ... Many thanks to all the runners who braved the freezing conditions and to everyone who helped. Congratulations to ‘The Cool Kerrs’ on winning the quiz (Val, Mark, Emily and Alistair Kerr). The evening raised £35 for Cancer Research UK.

PECO XC, Sun 19 Dec

Malcolm Pickering reports ... Some 11 juniors and 6 senior Harriers ventured over to the other side of Leeds to run in the second Peco cross country league race at Middleton Park. The underfoot conditions were hard with the odd mole hill creating minor problems but the sun managed to keep shining until the end of the races and the mince pies had be eaten.

The Stoop, Sun 19 Dec

Paddy Hagan reports ... This race and the quarry runs before it are the perfect antidote to official Health and Safety, with six year olds and up doing cartwheels down a snowy bank before the adults negotiated ice, snow and, inevitably, the unfrozen bogs lurking beneath, all wearing compulsory Santa hats.

Tuesday 14th Dec

The much-anticipated Predictor Run was enjoyed by all, with a bottle of fine wine to be awarded next week to the most accurate predictor. Thanks to Richard Gray for organising this popular event again. Richard comments "that's the second time in 10 years that someone has got it spot on; Di Kitchen being the other."
This was followed by 'the talk about your favourite run' social Gathering, with sandwiches etc. provided by the Club. 'Spin the bottle' encouraged everyone to chat about their favorite race/reccie/run and some amazing tales came out ...

Bradford ParkRun, Sat 11 Dec

Henry Heavisides reports ... after two weeks of snow & ice, it was good to have mild temperatures & sunshine for the Bradford Parkrun 5k. I'd not done any fast running recently due to cancelled races & training sessions, so a 5k was a bit of a shock to the system. This was the final road counter in the Harriers League for 2010 & a small but select group of Ilkley runners took part, most in their first ever Parkrun event. Remember these 5k runs take place every week at venues around the country (including Bradford & Leeds), they're free to enter & once you're registered you can run whenever you want.

WYXC #4, Wakefield, Sun 5 Dec

Diane Haggar reports ... after the inevitable doubts about the weather, the final Complete Runner XC League race went ahead at Wakefield. Because the locals had been using the main descents and ascents as sledging runs and rendered them treacherous, the course was modified and shortened, resulting in 3 laps for ladies and 5 for men. Sadly these missed out the most enjoyable woodland trail part of the course. On the ladies side Ilkley's turnout was rather disappointing: Sally Malir and I had planned to sit it out as we were suffering with coughs but with only 3 ladies ready to toe the line I decided to step in to complete a team. Sally would have done the same but she was busy supporting our juniors at their presentation and missed the start. Emma Barclay led the team in and thanks to Lyn's sterling work we completed in a repectable 6th place.

Ladies results:
21 24:02 Emma Barclay
24 24:50 Diane Haggar
36 26:01 Alison Eagle
62 36:11 Lyn Eden

We picked up some individual prizes in the overall league standings (full overall results yet to be published):

Emma Barclay 3rd FV40
Diane Haggar 3rd FV45
Sue Morley 2nd FV55
Lyn Eden 1st FV65 (and also 1st FV60)

I have the trophies ladies, if you would like to give me a ring and arrange collection/delivery

Tom Adams took 3rd place overall in the Senior Men's League - a truly outstanding achievement.
Other Men's awards went to:
Malcom Pickering 2nd V55
Nick Pearce 3rd M55
Jim Towers 2nd M60
OVERALL TEAM PLACINGS
Ilkley Ladies 4th
Ilkley Men 7th

Malcolm adds .. I found the underfoot conditions at Wakefield some of the hardest I have run on in all my 48 years of taking part in this wonderful sport of ours. So well done to all who raced especially our juniors.
