Viking Chase English Championship Fell Race, Sun 25th Sept

Race report from George Elmes......

Just a quick note to let you know both Emily Elmes and Euan Brennan ran for Ilkley in the u10s in the above. Ive got to say it was easily the hardest race I have ever seen U10s complete. Really tough steep climb and back down in really poor weather. Not often in a junior race are the tops completely covered - visabilty was pretty poor and I had to personally direct a couple of kids. Really small field in the U10s but what was there was of really really high quality. I was at the turn round at the top and fair play to Euan he reached the top first and held off all challengers on the way down to claim first place. A cracking run over a really demanding course. Emily found it tough but really enjoyed it as in he words "it was a proper mountain race". Think she came 5th girl but overall in the series means that she completed 5 of the 6 champ races Euan completed 4 of the 6 champ races meaning they both get awarded a FRA championship T shirt for completing the required 4. Good to see Ilkley being represented. Special note to Euan he ran a first class race and both gave it 110%.

Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics Finals
Chloe Tindale, William Giles and Lucy Tindale represented West Yorkshire teams in the Yorkshire finals on Sunday 6th March.
Lucy picked up silver medals in each of her two events (Speed Bounce and 4 lap race, about 300 metres) and her under 13 girls’ team qualified for next month’s national finals.
Will went one better in his Speed Bounce picking up gold well ahead of the runner-up. He also picked up gold in the Obstacle Relay team and finished 5th in the under 13 boys’ 6 lap race. His team also qualified for the national finals.
Chloe’s under 15 girls’ team missed out on the national finals, but she lead her team well with her personal performances. Chloe matched her sister with 2nd in her 4 lap race and she also picked up silver in the Vertical Jump. Under 15s do three individual events, and in the Speed Bounce a national best of the year of 88 bounces in 30 seconds gave Chloe gold. Together these three performances made her the overall runner-up, only marginally failing to be Yorkshire’s 2011 sportshall athletics champion girl.
Good luck to the teams that qualified for the national finals.

In addition Naomi Elliott (IGS) was selected for the WY U15 team and performed well. She gained a silver medal in the Speed Bounce with 80, 7th place in both the vertical jump with 44cm and 24.6 in the 2 lap time trial. She was the 9th best all rounder at the event. Also Ed Muirhead was selected for the North Yorkshire Regional team. He was 3rd in the 6 lap time trial in 1.23.7 and 4th in the standing long jump with 2m.14.
