Harry Maslen - the first Junior Ilkley Harrier to make it to
the English Schools Championships
Harry's fantastic achievement at the ESAA Championships at Gateshead
in 2011 can be seen on the video. Harry set a PB of 11.71 in the
heats of the U15 80m Hurdles, followed that up with 11.75 in the
semi-finals which by the smallest of margins was not quite good
enough for a place in the final. Our juniors have the opportunity
to try all aspects of Track and Field Athletics.
See video
here. Thanks to Martyn Pearce for video.
Winner on the Fells
At Hellifield Gala in August 2012, Lucy Williamson
became the new U16 girls Yorkshire Champion and received a magnificent
Yorkshire Champion trophy.
There are many opportunities for juniors to train on the fells
and compete in both FRA and BOFRA events throughout the year.
ClubMark (2010)
Some of the Sportshall Athletics coaches and juniors help celebrate the award
of ClubMark, after receiving their own individual Sportshall Athletics certificates
and medals at the March presentation evening.
Juniors from 8 to 15 years enjoy taking part in Sportshall Athletics each week and
some go on to attend regional trials and represent West or North
Yorkshire.
Cross Country
We're looking forward to our best ever Cross-country season.
Ilkley caters for cross-country runners of all ages and abilities
from organising the local Wharfedale primary schools XC League to
competing at club level at the PECO and Complete Runner Leagues
or at the annual Championship events.
Get out there and get muddy.
Love Relays!
Relays are great fun, whether it's on the fells or over the terrain.
On the 1st July 2012 twenty-six juniors and their parents took
part in a very special relay to mark the Olympic Games. The 'Real
Relay' followed the route of the torch relay but was run every
step of the way, day and night by runners passing a single 'baton'
from one to the next.
What a fantastic achievement.
Sports Leadership Awards
All our juniors (14 years and older) have the opportunity to
help at coaching sessions and gain nationally recognised awards.
The photo shows the 13 Junior Harriers who were presented with
their Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership at the Ilkley Harriers
Presentation Evening, January 2012.
Five of these who are 16 have just started their Level 2 Award
in Community Sports Leadership.
Combined events
We encourage our athletes to continue doing all activities as
long as possible and not to specialise. Three of our juniors won
medals at the Yorkshire Championships Combined events at Carnegie
in September 2012.
Harry Maslen and Dan Judkowski took gold and silver medals in the U17s and Roisin Ramage
took gold in the U13's.
Well Done
... to all the juniors running in both the Badger Stone Relays and
the John Carr series.
... to Lucy Williamson running in the Inter Counties Fell Championships
wearing a Yorkshire vest for the first time. Came 7th overall in the
U16's, 2nd Yorkshire counter and gained a silver medal.
... to Lucy Haines and Euan Brennan at the BOFRA Sedbergh Gala Fell race.
Results here.
... to Harry Maslen, Rosie Shouler Harris and Evie Malir at the York
T&F Summer League meet. Results here.
